It’s the beginning of April and I just wanted to give you a long overdue review of Chris McNeeny’s latest ebook Day Job Killer. I actually read this ebook a few months ago, but I didn’t want to write about it back then. Do you want to know why? Well the ebook had a successful launch with a bunch of affiliates promoting. Before I got it, I got bombarded with a bunch of promotional emails for the book. That’s the nature of the internet marketing business, but it’s also something that I’ve become tired of - people promoting info products as if they’ve used it successfully themselves…when they never even tried it.
What Intrigued Me About Day Job Killer
Here are a few reason why I got DJK:
- It promised a super affiliate cloning strategy
- It promised a way to compete against the gurus
- It promised a way to build a business without spending much capital
Cloning Super Affiliates and Getting Rid of Your Competition
In this chapter, Chris talks about his “Campaign Nuking” & “Ad Nudging” strategy. Some may say that this strategy is unethical, but I guess it depends on how far you take it. As the name implies, you’re given a strategy that will nuke your competition. Without going into detail, you’re given a strategy that will allow you to see what the money makers are doing, and replicate that they are doing to make money as well.
I used this strategy along with his first strategy called “Direct Linking X”…which is pretty much a revised version of Google Cash. If you’re not familiar with that book, direct linking is the act of creating an ad and sending traffic directly to your affiliate links (without having your own website). I was competing with another affiliate for several months. He was running a direct linking campaign, while I was running a landing page. Looking at his Clickbank ID, I knew who he was (by searching for his ID on Google). So I cloned him…partially. I started a campaign with a similar ad using the Campaign Nuking strategies.
I thought that I would never be able to compete with the guy at first. He’s a super affiliate and has tons of experience compared to me. Since I was keeping track of everything, I knew that he had a good CTR (especially being #1 for a long time with specific keywords). So how could I compete with the guy without dumping in a load of money?
Well, after I took action, I was able to boost my CTR, drop his ad (since there could only be 1 domain listed at a time), and spend less money on clicks than my original campaign.
Spending Less Money on Your Promotions
Throughout the book, Chris provided a variety of ways to boost conversions and make more money with AdWords. There wasn’t a special chapter that said “do this and spend less”. Pretty much I was saving money when I boosted my CTR.
Is Direct Linking Still Effective?
Direct linking still does work. However, you have to do a lot more than before. Back in the Google Cash days, all you would need to do is create a bunch of campaigns and make money. There was less competition and know-how for AdWords. Nowadays, you have tons of competition and only 1 domain can show on the same results page. So things go tougher.
With Direct Linking X, Chris describes a method that I’ve never heard about before. It allows you to get another duplicate domain into the results. This strategy alone is very powerful..but take note, it may not be for you. It goes against Google’s TOS…so your ad may not be approved.
Besides what I mentioned, Chris does give some great ideas on how to boost conversions for direct linking in Day Job Killer. Again, I was pretty surprised since I’ve never read about this stuff before. I’ve read a bunch of AdWords and affiliate books and a lot of this stuff was pretty original.
Do I Recommend Day Job Killer?
Before I recommend this book, I want to tell you something up front. I don’t want you to waste your time or money. So here’s what I recommend… If you are a complete Google AdWords newbie, do not buy Day Job Killer. If you have never purchased Affiliate Project X, do not buy Day Job Killer. …but If you don’t fall into any of these 2 filters, then buy it.
Some people say that you shouldn’t buy and buy and buy. There’s a lot of information out there that’s full of B.S. If you’re experienced in AdWords and you’re looking for a competitive edge, the strategies in Day Job Killer can help you beat out your competition and make more money than the price of the book.
If you’re an AdWords novice…or even an Advanced AdWords advertiser, I would recommend taking a look at my Campaign Blasts review. It provides a guide for people to easily start profiting with pay-per-click (PPC). I’ve read other AdWords books, but this one is great since it applies to Clickbank and all other affiliate networks. Besides the newbie stuff, it contains a great strategy for finding niches through PPC - which is great if you don’t want to waste a lot of time on content sites that are hard to profit from.
