How To Build A Content Or Review Website Using A Blog
|
The great thing about content or review sites is that you’re educating a person before they buy. The truth is that most people don’t want to be sold. Yes, there are some sites that offer pure information without making a sale, but this site is all about starting up a business for fun and profit. By providing the advantages and disadvantages of a product or service, a person is more likely to buy.
Tools For Building A Content Or Review Site
One of the best tools to use is a blog (web log). EZturnkeybusinessidea.com is currently using a blogging system. Some advantages of using a blog are:
- There is not cost using the blog software I’m about to suggest
- You can update your website anywhere in the world if you have a computer and internet connection.
- You can easily manage your content by using it as a CMS (content management system)
- Blogs can allow comments, providing a community for your viewers
- The nature of blogs allow your site to be spread and linked by other “bloggers”. This creates a viral effect and increases traffic
- Blogs can easily enhance your traffic through syndication.
Blogs use RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feeds. Without getting to complicated, each time you post an article or review, your blog can be set up to automatically distribute it to many blog directories. This will increase your viewer base and will easily notify the search engines that your site is being updated.
If you’ve chosen a web host from our list, you’ll easily be able to setup a blog. With a MySQL database, one of the widely used and supported blogging sytems is WordPress. On this site, Dreamhost provides a 1-click installation for WordPress. All you have to do is provide a name, id, and password for the MySQL database, and click a button. The system automatically installs the software. You’ll have a ready to use website in several minutes.
If you don’t have MySQL, you can use a free blog software called Pivot. I’ve used it on several sites and I highly recommend it. It’s pretty easy to use and it’s easily customizable.
Setting Up Your Website
By using keyword research, you’ll be able to pinpoint the major categories of your site. For now, go ahead and pick out a least 3. These will be the major categories of your site. As time progresses, you can build it up.
You’ll also want to setup some basic pages like a “about us”, “contact us”, “disclaimer”, and “privacy statement” page.
Support For Your Blog
Whether you decide to use WordPress or Pivot, they both have support documentation and forums on their site. Some guides my be technical, but browsing through the basics of creating posts and even adding plugins can help you in the long run.
Adding Content To Your Website
You’ll want to update your site with relative content in a continuous manner. Blogs aren’t great as a brochure site, and you shouldn’t create a static online brochure site anyways.
If possible, try to add content at least every week. If that’s not possible, every 2 or 3 weeks would be okay.
Also, add small chunks at a time. Dumping a load of content in 1 shot will setup a flag in the search engines as if your site was intentionally made to SPAM the internet (aka splogging).
